Lions Debuting New Black Jerseys, Blue Helmets While Browns, Falcons Wearing Throwbacks – SportsLogos.Net News
Following a relatively quiet weekend on the uniform front, things ramp up a bit in Week 4 of the 2024-25 NFL season with the debut of the Detroit Lions’ new black alternate uniforms on Monday Night Football against the Seattle Seahawks.
The Lions haven’t worn black jerseys since 2007, but head coach – and former player – Dan Campbell pushed for and was rewarded with them after leading the franchise to its first division title in 30 years last season.
Those uniforms were paired with Detroit’s standard silver helmets and pants, but this set includes a Honolulu blue lid with a black and silver version of the Lions primary logo on the sides and matching stripes down the center and plain black pants.
Detroit is also scheduled to wear the black jerseys and Honolulu blue helmets on Dec. 15 against the Buffalo Bills, though it’s likely they’ll be paired with Honolulu blue pants that afternoon, as that option was also shown during April’s reveal.
Elsewhere, the Atlanta Falcons will wear their 1966 throwback uniforms – complete with red helmets – for the first time this season in Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints, will counter with their standard gold helmets with white jerseys and pants.
The Falcons are 3-2 in the throwback uniforms since the red helmets replaced the 1990s-era helmet in 2022, when the NFL relaxed its one-helmet rule, including a victory over New Orleans last season, marking the last time the Saints wore their Color Rush uniforms with black helmets.
This weekend has one more classic uniform on tap, as the Cleveland Browns will wear their 1946 throwback uniforms with their white alternate helmet for the first time this season when they travel to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders.
The Browns are 2-1 in this uniform combination, which debuted last season with the introduction of the white helmets, and plan to wear it twice more this season, including at the Denver Broncos on Dec. 2 and against the Kansas City Chiefs on Dec. 15.
Some additional uniform-related notes include the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers wearing white jerseys at home, forcing the Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles to wear black and midnight green, respectively, on the road.
The Baltimore Ravens will also wear their all-black alternate uniforms against the Bills on Sunday Night Football, but every other matchup today and tomorrow night features teams in their standard home or road jerseys.
